European Credit Transfer System (ECTS)
The European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) is a student-centered system based on the student workload required to achieve the objectives of a program. These objectives are generally specified in terms of the learning outcomes and competencies to be acquired, while the workload refers to the amount of time a student needs to complete the learning activities.
The ECTS system applied by Gdansk Business School guarantees the quality of mobility activities and transparency of recognition procedures. The ECTS credits are based on the student workload required to achieve certain course outcomes and are attached to study programs, courses, seminars. They reflect the quantity of work a course unit requires in relation to the total quantity of work necessary to complete a full academic year. In the ECTS system, 60 credits are attached to the workload of a full academic year, with associated learning outcomes; with 30 ECTS credits given for a semester.
Recognition of mobility achievements for study and traineeships
Gdansk Business School (Gdańska Szkoła Wyższa – in Polish), called as GSW, ensures full academic recognition of satisfactorily completed activities during the Erasmus mobility period, in accordance with Learning Agreement. All mobility students before returning to their home Institution receive Transcripts of Records (within a period defined in the Learning Agreement) specifying full, accurate and timely record of their achievements (names and duration of course units satisfactorily completed, ECTS credits earned, local grades, etc.). All credits a student earns during the mobility period are originally agreed upon in the Learning Agreement and recognized by the home Institution. In the case of traineeships, GSW accepts Traineeship Certificate issued by an enterprise. All courses, activities and student achievements completed during their study at home Institution and abroad are included in the Diploma Supplement accompanying a higher education diploma issued in recognition of every degree successfully completed by a student.
The grading system applied at Gdansk Business School (GSW)
GSW | ECTS | Polish | English |

4,5 | B | dobry plus | very good – above the average standard but with some errors |
4,0 | C | dobry | good – generally sound work with a number of notable errors |
3,5 | D | dostateczny plus | satisfactory – fair but with significant shortcomings |
3,0 | E | dostateczny | sufficient – performance meets the minimum criteria |
2,0 | F | niedostateczny | insufficient – more work required before the credit can be awarded |
Language Policy
Gdansk Business School seeks to ensure that outgoing participants are able to speak either the language of the country that they are visiting or the language the courses are taught. The required minimum level of language proficiency for mobile participants in a given area (study, traineeship, staff mobility) is agreed on between the Institutions before the mobility. To improve students’ language skills they attend compulsory foreign language courses at different levels. They can also take regular courses taught in English in GSW in their field of study. Additionally, Gdansk Business School plans to organize lectures on intercultural communication, meetings for future mobile participants on language and cultural issues, etc. Language courses and meetings are also available to teachers and administrative staff.
Linguistic support is provided to incoming students and staff. The persons responsible for the reception and all the arrangements for the mobile participants are helpful in case of language and cultural problems. Incoming students and staff are offered foreign language courses, at different levels tailored to their needs, as well as courses in Polish language, culture and civilization. We provide all the mentoring and arrangement assistance to mobile participants to help them integrate into everyday life.
